Reading at school

The children have 2 guided reads at school with an adult at least twice a week. They also read their set reading book twice independently, once during guided reading and once during their morning job. Some children who need further support to make accelerated progress will be heard to read on a one to one basis. All children will practise reading their Common Exception Words at school at least one a week and be given a list to practise at home.

We also visit our school library every week. Please ensure that all children have their library book in their book bag on this day.

The children have a set day to change their reading books and check their common exception word reading lists.

Reading at home

All children are expected to read at least four times and get their reading diary ticked. They will have a book allocated to them on Bug Club to log on and read at home and will have 2 reading books to bring home each week.

The common exception words in the back of their reading diary are to be practised as frequently as possible at home. We will read these words with the children each week and move them on to the next list when they can confidently read all of them.

Please visit the curriculum area for more information about Reading, Writing and Phonics.
