Year 2

Welcome to year 2

In year 2 we have 3 classes;

Squirrels class - class teacher: Mrs Flynn, teaching assistant: Mrs Phillips

Badgers class - class teacher: Miss Ralph, teaching assistant: Mrs Styles

Woodpeckers class - class teacher: Miss Martin, teaching assistant: Miss Harding

 

Our P.E days are Monday and Wednesdays

Forest School with Mrs Harrison is on a Friday once every 6 weeks

Outdoor Learning with Mrs Holland is on a Tuesday afternoon once every 3 weeks

Spelling checks are usually on a Friday

Science

 

By the end of year 2 your child should be able to:

  • Observe and describe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants.

  • Find out and describe how plants need water, light and a suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy.

  • Notice that animals, including humans, have offspring that grow into adults.

  • Find out about and describe the basic needs of animals including humans for survival.

  • Describe the importance for humans of exercise, eating the right amounts of different types of food and hygiene.

  • Identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials including wood, metal, plastic, bricks, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses.

  • Find out how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting or stretching.

  • Ask simple questions and recognise that they can be answered in different ways.

  • Observe closely using simple equipment.

  • Perform simple tests.

  • Gather and record data to help answer questions.
