Attendance

Both Stoke Park Infant School and Stoke Park Junior School believe that for a child to reach their full educational achievement a high level of school attendance is essential.

We are committed to providing an education of the highest quality and work together to secure this for all our children. We endeavour to provide an environment where all children feel valued and welcome. Parents and children play a part in making our school successful. Every child has a right to access the education to which he/she is entitled. Parents and teachers share the responsibility for supporting and promoting excellent school attendance and punctuality for all.

It is our duty to consistently strive to achieve a goal of 100% attendance for all children. Every opportunity will be used to convey to children and their parents or carers the importance of regular and punctual attendance.

For our children to take full advantage of the educational opportunities offered it is vital your child is at school, on time, every day the school is open unless the reason for the absence is unavoidable. The routines children develop around attendance and punctuality at school are the same as the expectations of any future employer in the world of work.

Being on time

Our school day for children from Reception to Year 2 is 08:45 – 15:20. Classroom doors are opened at 08:45 and learning begins at this time. Registers will be officially closed at 8.50am, as will the school gates. If you arrive late for school, you must come to the school office through the Main Entrance on Abbotsbury to sign your child in. Similarly, the school day ends at 15:20, please be prompt in picking up your child.

You may not realise, but persistent lateness really does add up...

Please be aware that schools have a legal duty to inform Children’s Services about any absence of a child with current Children’s Services involvement or any absence where the school perceives there to be a level of risk according to the referral threshold criteria that we are required to adhere to.  If the school is unable to make contact with a family whose child is not in school this is considered a SAFEGUARDING RISKand we will carry out a home visit to check that the family is safe. If we are still unable to make contact then we will call the police and register your child as a missing person.

Where an absence is over a week school will remain in regular contact with parents/carers.

“for absences that are expected to last up to 15 school days and that are not part of a pattern of recurring illness, the parents/carers should discuss with the school whether they are willing to organise homework to be set as soon as the child can cope with it. The school should also agree with you how completed work will be collected and marked- Hampshire Guidance
